Renewable Hydropower
Sweden has the highest share of electricity generated from renewable sources in Europe, and 7 000 MW is generated from renewable energy sources in The Node Pole region. The main power source, Luleå River (Lule Älv), is twice the size of Hoover Dam in the USA, and generates 4200 MW of green electricity, free from CO2 emissions. In fact, the whole of Norrbotten has an energy surplus of up to 50% thanks to the river. Due to this, industries in The Node Pole can increase energy use, without increasing emissions.
Leading Competence
As the region is a national power supply hub, unique competence within energy efficiency, information technology and electrical science thrives in the area. In addition, Luleå University of Technology conducts research in the fields of sustainable resource usage, process IT- innovations and green technology.
Highly Developed Infrastructure
The region is already one of Scandinavia´s leading skill centers in ICT (Information and Communications Technology), and 20 billion Euro in agreed investments makes the region one of the fastest growing regions in Europe. Even though Luleå lies close to the northern polar circle, the communications infrastructure is highly developed. Luleå Airport is frequently trafficked and is just a one-hour flight from Sweden’s largest international hub – Stockholm Arlanda Airport.
