The King of Sweden visits Facebook

Led by the King of Sweden Carl XVI Gustaf, The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences visited Luleå in The Node Pole on Tuesday 16th October. This technical visit included a tour of the mining company LKAB and the Icehotel in Kiruna and Luleå University of Technology, the research institute Swerea MEFOS and the Facebook data center in Luleå.


The delegation was given an overview of the construction process and a tour in the server hall. The magnitude of the investment impressed the participants who also got a closer look at the fresh air cooling system and energy saving measures in this 28 000 square meter datacenter. The largest of its kind ever built in Europe and the Facebook’s first datacenter outside the US. Construction is scheduled for completion in March 2013.
